Although summer camp may be cancelled (because of COVID-19) Summer is not. As we approach warmer days, our kiddies will want to spend more time outdoors. Whether they are in the backyard or pool, sunscreen should always be worn and sun protection should be practiced.

We know sun exposure is important for our children’s bodies to make vitamin D which helps absorb calcium and create stronger bones. But too much sun exposure, especially if not practiced safely, can cause damage to the skin, eyes, and, immune system.

Practicing sun safety is very important for our kids. Here are 5 helpful tips.

Sun protection must be used outdoors on a sunny or cloudy day. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, children should wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Sunscreen can be mineral or chemical and should be reapplied often throughout the day.

Our Kids and Baby Sunscreen provides high sunscreen protection made for sensitive skin, with UVA/UVB Broad spectrum and up to 80 minutes’ water resistant.

The sun is the strongest usually between 10 am and 4 pm. We know is nearly close to impossible to not go out during these times especially during a nice summer day. If you do, please try to stay in the shade. Don’t forget if it’s not sunny, UV rays still reach earth. This can also damage the skin.

We often apply sunscreen to the larger areas of the skin, but forget the smaller areas like the nose, ears, hands. These areas usually burn the fastest.

We recommend our SPF 50 Mineral Stick for Face, Ears, and Hands. This mineral stick is Broad Spectrum, water resistant, non-Nano, vegan. It’s small enough for your kids to hold and apply on their own.

When outdoors, make sure to cover up your baby. Hats and sun umbrellas are a great way to keep their skin protected. Babies have sensitive skin, it is important to apply sunscreen and cover their skin. Our SPF 50 for Baby is all natural, hypo-allergenic, chemical-free SPF barriers zinc and titanium to provide a broad spectrum of UVA/UVB protection. This vitamin enriched formula offers all-natural Carrot Oil, Aloe Vera, and Green Tea with antioxidants. Super gentle and safe for your baby!

Sun exposure can cause eye damage such as cataracts. Wearing sunglasses that provide UV protection prevent the cornea from burning.

Lastly, make sure you as a parent is setting the example and applying sunscreen to yourself as well. Be a role model to sun protection awareness for our kids! Find mom and dad options on here.
